Rock sensation as Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism

A few months back we posted a YouTube video that compares Satriani’s “If I could Fly” with Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida”. Now Joe is all over the mainstream media in the UK (don’t know about US) because he’s decided to go to court over the issue. This would be a sensational trial, my guess is that it’ll get settled out of court. But sensational free publicity for all concerned, especially Satch. In fact, deliberately or otherwise, the furore around the alleged plagiarism amounts to a worldwide media breakthrough for Joe; ┬ámillions of dollars worth of publicity has been obtained and the payback is likely to be a lot more radio plays, albums purchased and gig tickets sold as people who’ve never heard of him give his music a try. ┬áBrilliant.

Listen to the video and judge for yourself.

Greg Howe (with Dennis Chambers and Tetsuo Sakurai)

Greg Howe solo here follows one from Sakurai. With the incredible Dennis Chambers virtuosity comes as standard.

Rob Balducci and Guthrie Govan at NAMM 2008

This video is slightly annoying in that it focuses just on Govan Guthrie while Rob Balducci is soloing. Good though.
