The Shadows – “The Stranger” plus “Kon Tiki” (1989)

In the late ’50s and early 1960s ‘The Stranger’ – a much slower version than here and not by the Shadows – was used as the theme tune to the Edgar Wallace mystery movies, black and white ‘B’ films in the days when you had two movies in a performance and you could smoke as much as you wanted.

The Ventures play “Walk Don’t Run”

This came out in December 1960. Don’t mock, it all had to start somewhere. In the 1970s the Shadows did a cover version, paying back the Ventures for covering “Apache” – which stopped the Shadows having a big hit in the USA, something they were always bitter about.
